Excursions from La Paz: Tiwanaku Ruins, Lake Titicaca, Puerto Perez |
Ancient ruins, legends and dramatic landscape will take you straight to the soul of Bolivia
| Overview | |
From the legendary ruins of Tiwanaku to the mystical waters of Lake Titicaca, traverse the ruggedly beautiful landscape of Bolivia on this tour. Drive across the Altiplano (high plateau) from the Bolivian capital, La Paz and you will find the Tiwanaku ruins dating back to 600B.C. Tiwanaku, also called Tiahuanaco, is Bolivia's premiere archaeological site. The ruins are the remains of a pre-Inca civilization dating from about 600 BC. It was a major sacred ceremonial centre and the focal point of a culture that was far-reaching in its influence and believed to be more advanced than the Incas in art, pottery, astronomy and mathematics. Stroll around the ruins and visit the famous ‘Puerta del Sol’ or Gateway of the Sun, carved from a single block of stone. A scenic drive past the snow-dipped Andes will to Puerto Perez where the sapphire blue waters of Lake Titicaca will enchant you. As the sun sets over the waters of Lake Titicaca with the Andes in the backdrop, savor the rugged history and beauty of Bolivia.
