The translation of Fado is destiny, or fate. Fado is a musical art form that is performed from the heart and soul of the singer. Fado almost always expresses the darker aspects of emotion: sadness, grief, sorrow and loneliness. Presently Fado tends to be marketed towards tourists, which makes a good Fado performance difficult to find! It is not uncommon to find a good Fado performance in Lisbon. But what is difficult to find is restaurant that has a simultaneous combination of good Fado singers, good ambiance, good food and good service. Casa de Linhares has all 4 of these qualities in lavish amounts.
