Set against the backdrop of the ice-capped Andes, the sapphire blue waters of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, will bewitch you with its mystique and legend. The remote island of Taquile on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca, was once a prized Inca territory. The islanders still speak Quechua, the language of the Incas, and the weaving tradition is particular to the island. Dotted with Inca ruins and stone terraces, this island, only about 1 kilometre wide and 6-7 kilometres long, reflects the spirit of Peru - a fusion of traditions and cultures. Visit the quaint floating Reed or Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca and meet the native Uros Indians who have inhabited the islands for decades. These islands are made solely of the totora reeds that grow freely along of the banks of the Titicaca Lake, and are even used to build houses and canoes! Inca legends, sunsets over the snow-dipped Andean mountains and the rugged beauty of Peru – this tour showcases Peru at its best.
