Sundowner Flight |
Get a sense of the sheer size of the Namib Desert and appreciate Namibia’s varied landscape.
| Overview | |
Enjoy the spectacular beauty of Namibia as you fly over a series of scenic dams on this family vacation. Take off from the Eros airstrip in the capital city of Windhoek and head towards the suburb, Katutura. As you move overhead, watch the small surface reservoir called the Goreangab Dam, which has a treatment plant right next to it. Gaze at the myriad hues in the sky as you glide over 25,000 acres of bush covered hills of Khomas Hochland. Known for animals like kudu, Hartmann’s zebra and warthog, these hills are great for a hunting expedition. As soon as you cross these hills, the indefinite expanse of the Namib Desert comes into view. Spread over 50,000 square kilometres and running 1,000 miles along the Atlantic Ocean, this desert is a natural wonder. Enjoy a glass of sparkling bubbly or beer and revel in the spectacular view of the Swakop River, joined by the Khan River, in the vast sea of dunes. The picture of the isolated river meandering through the burnt-orange dunes is a wonderful contrast to the Atlantic Ocean running parallel to it. As the last rays of the sun light up the sky, pass over the Swakoppoort Dam on the Swakop River and begin your journey back to Windhoek. So put on a comfortable T-shirt and shoes as you get ready to explore Namibia’s varied terrain on this flying family vacation.
