The 234,566-hectare Greater St Lucia Wetland Park is the largest estuarine system in Africa. This UNESCO World Heritage listed park has an incrediblevariety of flora and fauna and stretches along the Zululand coast from the Mozambique border in the north to Mapelane in the south. St. Lucia Park comprises a variety of eco systems like swamps, lakes, lagoons, beaches, coral reefs and grasslands. Stretching across 40 miles with a width of 13 miles, Lake St.Lucia is the centrepiece of the park and a great place to spot some of the 530 species of birds like the fish eagle, herons, pelicans and flamingos found in this region. You will also see hippos, crocodiles and leatherback turtles for which the park is famous. Depending on when you’re visiting, you can choose from a variety of activities - go on a whale watching adventure (between June and November), explore the region’s diverse flora and fauna in a sea kayaks (December to May), and watch leatherback and loggerhead turtles laying their eggs on the beach (between November and February) . A perfect family getaway, this park has something for everyone.
