Udaipur is a beautiful city with many lakes and is nestled in the Aravali Hills, which adds to its picturesque beauty. The city was built by Maharana Udai Singh in 1568 after his citadel at Chittorgarh was ransacked by the Mughal emperor Akbar. Legend has it that the king was advised by a holy man to build his new capital near Lake Pichola. Standing in the middle of the idyllic waters of Lake Pichola is Lake Palace, one of the main attractions of the city. The imposing Udaipur City Palace, with its balconies and cupolas is Rajasthan's largest palace and is home even today to some of Rajasthan’s royal family. Its ramparts house the magnificently decorated Dilkhush Mahal and Moti Mahal. Many gardens like Saheliyon ki Bari which was built for the women of the royal family, dot the city.
Vibrant colours, scenic gardens, grand palaces and beautiful lakes give Udaipur a fanciful, romantic air. This sightseeing tour to Rajasthan’s City of Lakes is a must do!
