A clash of Arab, Norman and Greek cultures await in a stunning architectural tour of the Sicilian cities of Palermo and Monreale. Begin your tour by visiting the sprawling Norman Palace which houses the stunning Palermo Chapel. Built in the 12th century by the Normans, but with a Byzantine style, it holds some of the most artistically interesting mosaics in the region. The neighboring Palermo Cathedral was also built during this period. From Palermo, you will travel to neighboring Duomo Cathedral. Like the juicy olives that grow in the nearby groves of Monreale, the Duomo’s plain exterior does not do justice to the remarkable treasures inside. Here, you will walk into the stunning bronze door panel and be awed by the assortment of glittering gold mosaics that cover the interior. Finally, you can conclude with a visit to the Chiostro dei Beneditinni for some fantastic shopping.
