Samburu by air (Samburu Game Lodge) |
Spot giraffes, zebras, ostriches and some of the Big Five on wildlife safaris in Samburu.
| Overview | |
Visit the 104 square kilometres Samburu National Reserve in Northern Kenya for a 4WD safari adventure. Set against the backdrop of the red tabletop mountain ‘Lololokwi’ and lying on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, the reserve has extensive grasslands, acacia trees, riverine forests and thorn bushes. Travel to Samburu Game Lodge, the home base for your safari adventure in Samburu National Reserve. Bordering the crocodile-infested Uaso Nyiro River or ‘brown river’ and surrounded by cool riverine forests, the lodge is ideally located for you to spot elephants, zebras and buffaloes which usually come for a drink at the river. Tuck into a hearty lunch and you’ll be raring to set out on a late afternoon wildlife safari. Lookout for elephants, reticulated giraffes, Somali ostriches, Beisa oryxes, gerenuks and the endangered Grevy’s zebras for which this reserve is home. Over the next two days, keep your camera and binoculars handy as you set out on morning and afternoon game-spotting safaris. Travel over rocky battlements and dry river beds past thorn scrub and red dust plains and you will appreciate the dramatic beauty of Northern Kenya’s landscape. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for kingfishers, vultures, tawny eagles and the sun-bird that are seen in this region. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing swim in the pool, take a guided bird walk or acquaint yourself with local culture as you watch Samburu dances. A great way to explore the wildlife of Kenya, this safari to Samburu National Reserve will take you straight to the heart of Kenya!
