The Whirinaki Rainforest is about 50 kilometers south of Rotorua and is enthralling for the stunning beauty of its towering trees many of which are several hundred years old. Scenic walking trails, fascinating waterfalls and the beautiful Whirinaki River make the rainforest an absolute delight to visit. Waima-ngu literally means ‘black water’ and it is named for the dark, muddy colour of the water in Waimangu Volcanic Valley. This valley was created in 1886 after the eruption of Mt. Tarawera. See its many thermal and volcanic features like the Inferno Crater Lake and the Frying Pan Lake. Guided walks and lake cruises make a visit here truly unforgettable. For nature lovers this tour is a must-do on a holiday in New Zealand.
