Potosi City Sightseeing Tour |
Silver mines and colonial architecture- the world’s highest city will transport you back in time!
| Overview | |
Situated at the base of the ‘rich hill’ (Cerro Rico), Potosi is the highest city in the world at 4090 meters. This city tour of Potosi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will take you back to the days of Spanish conquistadors and silver mines. The city is characterized by its baroque architecture, its profusion of churches, monasteries and temples, palaces and mansions that adorn the narrow and paved streets. Admire the intricate 16th century baroque carvings on the San Lorenzo church and visit the oldest monastery in Bolivia, the Museo de San Francisco. This museum contains religious artwork but the main attraction is the splendid view of Potosi from the monastery’s tower. Casa Real de La Moneda (Royal Mint) is Potosi’s star attractions and one of South America’s finest museums. The first coins in the Americas as well as the famous silver coins for the Spanish crown were minted here.
