Poets' Trail at Isla Negra |
The poetic reminiscence of Pablo Neruda’s enchantment with life, lives on in his humble adobes.
| Overview | |
Set out on an excursion from Santiago to the pretty town of Isla Negra characterized by dark sands, eucalyptus and pine tress. The highlight of the town is the home of famous poet Pablo Neruda. Opening up to the Pacific Ocean, this ship-like house of the Nobel Prize winner sits at the foot of Cerro San Cristobal. Now preserved as a museum, you will find the contents of the house as enchanting as the poems of Neruda. An exquisite bar from Marseille, Bauhaus furniture, fine sculptures and paintings and an extraordinary library of books are some of the things you cannot miss in his mystifying adobe. You will notice his passion for architecture although being more on surrealistic terms, but every article in and around the house sings the lore of his philosophy and perception. Don’t miss out a trip to La Sebastiana, Pablo Neruda's second home, now a museum.
