Most famous as the birthplace of American independence and home of the Liberty Bell, Philadelphia is also a shoppers’ paradise. Shopping is a big attraction for visitors to Philadelphia, especially because the state of Pennsylvania has no sales tax on clothing or shoes. Center City has a staggering collection of clothing and jewellery stores. Philadelphia's Strawbridge’s department store is very popular with shoppers.The Gallery at Market East is the nation’s largest enclosed urban shopping center. The Shops at Liberty Place, and The Bourse are two other large shopping centers boasting gourmet food and restaurants as well as shops. Rittenhouse Row is the city’s upmarket shopping and dining district. Jeweler’s Row on Sansom Street and Antique Row on Pine Street run for several blocks in the Washington Square district. Franklin Mills is a huge factory outlet mall with more than 200 stores selling name brands at 20-70 percent discounts. King of Prussia Mall is the largest shopping Mall on the East Coast. Philadelphia’s tax-free stores make Pennsylvania’s oldest city an interesting alternative to the Big Apple or Boston for Christmas shopping.
