Take an amazing half-hour walk towards the highest peak of Madeira from Pico do Arreiro, under the spectacular shining stars with a dark sky as background. As you trail further, the path will lead you to a place near the breeding area of the small seabird Zino's Petrels. Turn off your flashlights so that you don’t scare away the birds and wait in the quietude to hear the first call. Little by little, the sound of their calls will fill the air. Sit by a bush and warm up with a nice cup of tea, while the petrels continue to call and fly above in the moon light. The rustling of the leaves, the night noises and a brilliant clear sky far above, makes the experience even more enchanting. On your return, you might chance upon some flying bats around the public lamp near the parking area.
