The Papallacta Thermal Springs Resort (Termas de Papallacta) is nestled high in the Andean Cordillera amid a breathtaking setting, and on the route to the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle. The resort itself is located on the famous "Cinnamon Trail", the same route that the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Orellana followed in 1542, leading to his discovery of the Amazon River. The Termas de Papallacta Spa and Resort serves as the gateway to the Ecuadorian Amazon region. For decades, the soothing healing thermal waters and pure nature surrounding Termas de Papallacta made it a "must do" Ecuador in tourism attraction. The thermal baths are located on the banks of the Papallacta river in a unique natural environment. The hydrothermal value of Termas de Papallacta's hot springs is due to Papallacta's location between two volcanoes, Cayambe and Antisana. The baths' curative properties have also proven to be anti-allergenic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and anti-rheumatic. Close to the resort is the protected Canyon Ranch, located at the entrance of the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve. Fishing is a popular activity in this area.
