Visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and see beautiful temples and Thailand’s rich heritage
| Attractions and things to do - Tour of Northern Thailand: Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai | |
Explore Thailand’s incredible landscape and rich culture on this five-day tour of Northern Thailand. See two UNESCO World Heritage Sites on this trip, Ayutthaya, the old Siamese capital, and Old Sukhothai, the 13th century first capital of the Thai kingdom. The Bang Pa In or the famous Royal Palace served as the summer residence of Ayutthaya kings. Another attraction is the Thai pavilion built in the middle of a lake and the Chinese-style palace Vihat Chamrun. Explore Ayutthaya’s large number of temples. Keep your camera ready in Lopburi and get some great photographs of the three-towered temple, Phra Prang Sam Yod and the Hindu Goddess Kali shrine at the Sarn Prakarn Temple. The large sitting Buddha statue at Wat Sri Chum here makes for a wonderful sight. The Wat Phra Dhat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, which is also called the ‘Rose of the North’, is more than 3,500 feet above sea level! Climb its 290 steps and explore Northern Thailand's most sacred temple, which contains some relics of the Buddha. The colourful Orchid and Butterfly Farms at Chiang Mai are informative while some traditional handicrafts can be picked up from San Kampaeng
