Visit the famous attractions of old Delhi - the Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Chandni Chowk
| Overview | |
Visit the famous attractions of Old Delhi on this private tour and discover the fascinating history of India. Also called the Walled City, Old Delhi once served as a second capital of the Mughal Empire. The Red Fort is one of the most famous sights of Old Delhi and tells of an important period in the history of Mughal India. A massive fortress with a wall that runs for 2 kilometres, it houses impressive buildings like the Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Commons) and Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), where the emperor held a glittering court. The Jama Masjid is another famous sight in Old Delhi, a red sandstone and marble structure overlooking the busy market below. The largest mosque in India, it was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. Once the imperial avenue of the Mughals, Chandni Chowk is now dotted with colourful shops selling everything from wedding clothes to beautiful silver jewellery. Rickshaws jostle for space with people and the smell of sweet jalebis (an Indian sweet) is extremely enticing. Take a sightseeing tour in Old Delhi and explore the famous historical landmarks of India.
