This family vacation, take a trip to the Mekong Delta and explore its pristine beaches and fruit orchards. Set out from Ho Chi Minh City and travel southwest to the Mekong Delta past My Tho, the capital of the Tien Giang Province. In Mekong Delta, you’ll see plenty of coconut trees, mangroves, citrus fruit orchards and rice fields. It is popularly known as Vietnam’s ‘bread basket’ and produces rice to feed the whole country. Further on, visit the Unicorn Island also known as Thoi Son Island and see fruit orchards and lush palm-fringed shores lined with wooden fishing boats. Visit the factories producing honey and coconut candy. The next stop is at Phoenix Island where you can listen to interesting stories about the Coconut Monk who led a small community here until his imprisonment and the consequent dispersion of his flock. Journey southwest past Vinh Long and travel across the Hau Giang River by ferry to Can Tho, a bustling market community and one of the most prolific agricultural regions of Vietnam. Drive from Can Tho in the direction of Soc Trang to the Cau Dau Sau landing and proceed by boat to the Cai Rang Floating Market where you will see boats loaded with fresh fruits, vegetables, fishes and coconuts. Take a speed boat to Chau Doc and visit the Sam Mountain and explore the pagodas set inside caves around the mountain. Sam Mountain is a favourite spot for tourists who come from Taiwan and pilgrims from China and Ho Chi Minh City. The peak of the mountain offers a phenomenal view of the surrounding landscape and waterways and you can enjoy a panoramic view of Cambodia in the distance. Spend the night at Chau Doc. The next day, take a boat trip to the floating villages and see floating houses with suspended metal nets for raising fish. Explore the floating village and return to Ho Chi Minh City. With picturesque floating villages, silvery beaches and floating markets, this will be a perfect family vacation in Vietnam.
