Rishikesh Temples and Ashrams - 4 day tour from Delhi |
Attend a prayer ceremony on the banks of the River Ganges and visit temples and ashrams
| Overview | |
Rishikesh lies on the banks of the river Ganges with the Himalayan mountains as the backdrop, a beautiful setting for its many temples and ashrams. One of the most popular pilgrimage towns in India, Rishikesh is also called the ‘Yoga Capital of the World’. Many come to the town just to meditate and practice yoga. The peal of temple bells resounds in the air and pilgrims withtilaks (vermilion marks) on their forehead pay their respects in the temples of Rishikesh. The Laxman Jhoola and Ram Jhoola, pedestrian suspension bridges across the river Ganges, lead to temples with idols of Hindu deities. The evening ‘aarti’ (prayer ceremony) offers a glimpse into India’s culture and is truly a sight to behold. Hundreds of pilgrims gather on the banks of the holy river with earthen lamps which they then float gently down the river. Discover the rich culture of India in this pilgrimage town which draws travellers from across the world.
