Explore the wilds of Africa as you visit the 1510 square kilometre Masai Mara National Reserve for a wildlife spotting safari adventure. Set against the backdrop of the Esoit Oloololo Escarpment and dissected by the Mara River, the reserve is famous for its variety of wildlife and seasonal wildebeest migrations. Travel to Keekorok Lodge, ideally situated right in the path of the migratory wildebeest and the home base for this four-day safari. Set out on a late afternoon game spotting safari in the reserve and lookout for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, hippos and the elusive leopards. The next day, as the sun rises over the region, set out on a balloon safari over the reserve which encompasses the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem, appreciating the beauty of the 'sea of grass on plains'. Keep your binoculars handy and you could see big cats pouncing on some unsuspecting prey. After a morning of wildlife spotting, enjoy a delicious bush breakfast with champagne. Another option is to set out on a game safari through the reserve and follow it up with breakfast at camp.Later, spend some time just walking around the lodge and enjoy a relaxing swim in the pool. If you feel like a drink, walk along the 300 metre forested broad walk to the bar and relax in Masai Mara's oldest lodge. You could even get a close-up view of elephants, hippos and buffaloes that graze near the perimeter of the lodge. In the afternoon, carry your camera along for a late afternoon game-spotting safari where you could come across antelopes, Grant's gazelle, Masai giraffes, baboons and spotted hyenas. If you're visiting the reserve between July and October, you'll be in for a real treat as you watch the wildebeest migration. The sight of hundreds of columns of this antelope (also called the 'gnu') is something you will not forget for days to come. Lying directly in the path of the wildebeest, you won't even have to go on safari drives at Keekorok Lodge. With hot air balloon rides and game-spotting safaris, you will not ask for more on this vacation to Masai Mara National Reserve in Western Kenya.
