Discover the wilds of Africa as you go on a wildlife spotting safari in the 1510 square kilometre Masai Mara National Reserve on this Kenyan vacation. Set against the backdrop of the Esoit Oloololo Escarpment and dissected by the Mara River, the reserve is famous for its variety of wildlife and seasonal wildebeest migrations. Travel to the luxurious 5-star Mara Explorer camp, situated on a forested bend of the Talek River and the home base for this 4-day safari. The adventure begins as you set out on a late afternoon game spotting safari in the reserve where you could see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, hippos and elusive leopards. The next day, as the sun rises over the region, set out on a balloon safari over the reserve which encompasses the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem, appreciating the beauty of the ‘sea of grass on plains’. Keep your binoculars handy and you could see big cats pouncing on some unsuspecting prey. After a morning of wildlife spotting, enjoy a delicious bush breakfast. Another option is to set out on a game safari through the reserve and follow it up with breakfast at camp.Later, just sit back and enjoy a view of Talek River from your own private deck or relax in the private, open air bathing area. In the afternoon, don’t forget to carry your cameras along for a late afternoon game-safari and you may come across antelopes, Grant’s gazelle, Masai giraffes, baboons and spotted hyenas. If you’re visiting the reserve between July and October, you’ll be in for a real treat as you watch the wildebeest migration. The sight of hundreds of columns of this antelope (also called the ‘gnu’) is something you will not forget for days to come. Spend the evening watching the sun set over the African wilds and you will not ask for more on this vacation to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
