Visit Mahale National Park, one of Tanzania’s untouched nature reserves and explore white sand beaches, the forested Mahale Mountains, and a variety of wildlife such as chimpanzees! This remote reserve is home to some of Africa’s last surviving chimpanzees. Stretching along Lake Tanganyika (670 kilometres), the world’s longest lake and dissected by the lofty Mahale range, the reserve is the perfect habitat for game and birds. The experience is unique as there are no roads to walk on, so you have to make your own way into the wilderness of the park. This park has also been the centre for the Japanese primate research since 1965. Hike up the Mahale Mountain and spot chimpanzees. The guide will look for traces of the previous night’s nesting, remains of eaten fruit or dung, and follow the trail left by the chimp. Apart from the star attraction (the chimpanzees), you could also come across leopards, kudus, lions, buffaloes, antelopes, baboons, monkeys and elands. Hike along a mountainous trail and you might come across the Tongwe people, for whom this region is home. With stunning landscape and a variety of wildlife, this Mahale Mountain and national park exploration promises to be exciting!
