The Dark Legends of Bucharest: Princely Court, Snagov Monastery
The legend of Vlad the Impaler is kept alive in this spine-tingling tour
| Attractions and things to do - The Dark Legends of Bucharest: Princely Court, Snagov Monastery | |
When it comes to Vlad the Impaler, it’s impossible to separate fact from myth. The reign of this barbaric Romanian Prince, who ruled Wallachia intermittently from 1448-1476, helped lay the foundation for the legend of Dracula, and has been the subject of centuries of speculation by historians and horror connoisseurs. This tour takes you on a boat ride to a remote monastery where, according to legend, the dark prince was granted his final resting place. Surrounded by still waters and terrifying tales, the Snagov Monastery will give you the chills. You’ll also see the ruins of the Old Princely Court in Bucharest, where this real-life Dracula cruelly presided over his subjects and imprisoned his adversaries in subterranean chambers. Sleep—if you can—in a comfortable hotel in the heart of the Romanian capital.
