Enjoy a beach holiday in the Zanzibar Channel as you visit the idyllic Lazy Lagoon Island. Just two kilometres off the mainland in the Indian Ocean, this nine kilometres long island has soft white sand beaches, making it the ultimate romantic retreat! Enjoy a combination of sun and sand, go fishing or snorkel with colourful fish, and explore live coral beds. You could also spot African wildlife such as bush babies (one of the most unusual animals of the African bush), wild pigs, genets, baboons and the Suni antelope. Get a sense of Tanzania’s culture and history as well on this holiday. Visit Bagamoyo, a major centre of the slave trade in the mid-19th century and the port of call for many European explorers such as Burton, Stanely, Grant and Livingstone. Explore the Kaole Ruins, the remnants of the ‘shirazi’ Arab trading settlements, and visit the 13th century mosque built in Tanganyika. While you are in the Bagamoyo town visit the remains of the first Catholic mission in Central and East Africa. With the scenic environs of the Lazy Lagoon Island and a glimpse of Tanzania’s history, this beach holiday in the Zanzibar channel is delightful!
