Kuala Selangor is located about an hour’s drive away from Kuala Lumpur along a muddy coastline fringed with mangrove swamps. What makes this place spectacular is the opportunity to witness fireflies lighting up the river at night. Cruise on a boat along the Selangor river in the night to capture the beauty of this natural wonder. In a matter of moments, the darkness is punctuated with the fabulous display of thousands of fairy like lights of the fireflies lining the shore. Fireflies are found in abundance in the Mangrove (Berembang) trees, along the lower reaches of Selangor River. Nearly thousands of fireflies group together on a tree, beginning their synchronized display about one hour after sunset. A really bright display can last for about two to three hours, continuing at lower levels until dawn. Enjoy the spectacle of whole trees being lit up like ‘Christmas trees’. Watch this spectacular natural display and see the stars descend on earth!
