Kanyakumari, the Land’s End of India is a beautiful seaside town surrounded on three sides by three different seas – The Arabian Sea on the West, the Indian Ocean on the South and the Bay of Bengal on the East. The town gets its name from the presiding Deity – the Goddess Kanya Kumari, an incarnation of Parvati.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial on which Swami Vivekananda meditated is one of the popular tourist attractions in Kanyakumari. Also on this rock, which is about 500 metres from the mainland, are said to be the footprints of the Goddess known as Pada Parai. Next to this memorial is a gigantic sculpture of the Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar. The statue is 133 feet high signifying the 133 chapters of his magnum opus – The Thirukkural
