Ancient relics of the Moche civilization will give an insight into Peru’s lesser known, but equally fascinating, pre-Incan heritage on this tour. Dating back to 200 A.D. but unearthed only in 1987, the burial site of the Mochicas will leave you stunned. The tomb of the ‘Lord of Sipan’, filled with gold jewellery and precious stones, was discovered in 1987 by Peruvian archaeologist Walter Alva. It is considered to be one of the most important discoveries of the 20th century. Savour the rich traditions of this ancient civilization with a visit to the Tumbas Reales Museum. Termed the “Richest Tomb in the Western Hemisphere”, the museum houses the magnificent collection of headdresses, crowns, necklaces figurines, pottery and textiles found in the tomb of the Lord of Sipan. The Tucume pyramids are South America’s equivalent to Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. The 26 pyramids belonging to the Lambayeque civilisation are spread across 540 acres and are an imposing site. Local shaman healers still perform ceremonies, believing that the site has a special energy. Surrounded by the remnants of ancient civilizations, Peru’s rich heritage will enchant you with its history and legends.
