Historical Tour to Shobak Castle |
Churches, secret passageways, pitch-dark tunnels- the Shobak Castle in Jordan will intrigue you
| Overview | |
Learn about the glorious past of the Crusaders and the Holy Wars at the Shobak Castle in Jordan on this historical tour. A lonely reminder of former Crusader glory, the castle is also called “Mont Real” as it is perched on the side of a rocky, conical mountain, with a grand sweep of fruits tree below. The castle exterior is impressive with a forbidding gate and encircling triple walls. It was the first outpost built beyond the Jordan River by the Crusader King Baldwin I of Jerusalem, and later modified by the Mamluks in the 14th century, to guard the road from Egypt to Damascus. The most interesting part of the castle tour is the exploration of the pitch dark tunnels and secret passageways. This historical tour not only touches upon the tumultuous wars but also the brilliant architectural artistry of the respective eras in Jordan’s Shobak Castle
