Orchha lies on the banks of the Betwa River in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is famous for its glorious temples, fort palaces and chhatris or cenotaphs built in the 16th and 17th centuries by the Bundela rulers. The fort complex that houses magnificent palaces is impressive, especially the Raj Mahal whose ancient walls are adorned with colourful frescoes. The ancient temples of Orchha deserve a special mention both for their architecture and the interesting myths and legends associated with them. A stroll by the river bank guarantees more than just a splendid sunset. Here lie the chhatris or cenotaphs of the Bundela royalty, an architectural wonder in its own right. Visit Orchha, where time seems to have stood still and the beauty and grandeur of the forts and palaces hasn’t diminished in all these years.
