India’s desert state of Rajasthan is home to many magnificent forts. The Devigarh Fort is one of them. Nestled in the Aravali Hills, this 18th century fort commands one of the three main passes into the valley of Udaipur. Surrounded by lush green fields and mountains on three sides, the fort overlooks the village of Delwara and is close to the temples of Eklingji and Nagda. Years of restoration and rebuilding have converted this once abandoned heritage site into a spectacular luxury hotel that beautifully combines the grandeur of the past and the sleek luxury of the 21st century. Embellished with semi-precious stones and marble, the suites in the hotel are lavishly decorated. The ambience of the fort palace has made it a favourite hotel for many, and celebrities like Liz Hurley and Elton John have stayed here.
