A visit to the beautiful and quiet town of Tetuan in Morocco is truly an interesting and stimulating experience. Tetuan is the only Moroccan port on the Mediterranean coast. Located about 60 kilometres from Tangier, the city has had a rich and tumultuous past.

It has been ruled by the Spanish, French and the Arabs at different times in its history. This is evident in the street signs and the languages that the locals speak. French, Spanish and Arabic are widely spoken.

The city has a beautiful setting with the Rif Mountains forming a dramatic backdrop. Within the white-walled houses are beautifully tiled and carved ceilings and walls. The beauty and style reflect the Alhambra of Granada, Spain.

Tetouan may not be as well known as some of Morocco’s other cities but its beauty, setting and relatively low tourist population make it worthwhile visiting
