Go on a bird watching tour in Vietnam at the Cuc Phuong National Park and explore a wealth of wildlife, endemic flora and centuries old caves. Spread on 25,000 hectares, the Cuc Phuong National Park in the city of Hanoi (140 kilometers south of Hanoi) is renowned for its botanical richness, primeval forests and over 120 species of birds. In 1962, the Cuc Phuong was established as the first national park of Vietnam. Hike into the dense forest of the national park and spot thousand-year-old dracontomelum and parashorea trees surrounded with coral, vanilla, snow-white and butterfly orchid blooms. If you are visiting this place in April and May, you’ll see a swarming mass of colourful butterflies, a variety of beetles and rare species of birds. Continue east towards Ninh Binh Province away from mountainous areas towards the flatlands. Next morning, set out on an excursion from Ninh Binh to the Dry Halong Bay. The bay is popularly known as Tam Coc which means three caves; Hang Ca, Hang Giua and Hang Cuoi. Take a tour around the region and you’ll see huge rock formations protruding out of paddy fields.

Also visit Hao- Lu, an erstwhile capital of the country under Dinh Dynasty and find out about the history and culture of Vietnam. In the morning, go on a boating excursion to the Kenh Ga floating village where people live on boats floating on the Hoang Long River. This pretty village is built on a flooded river surrounded by limestone rocks. You’ll come across catholic churches, water-logged cemeteries and local villagers passing by on their boats. Continue to visit the Phat Diem, the site of a cathedral remarkable for its vast dimensions and unique Sino-Vietnamese architecture. Marvel at the huge bell dangling from the highest tower of the cathedral and the two stone slabs which were used by the members to observe catholic mass
