Enjoy a family holiday at the Halong Bay as you sail on a boat and explore its craggy limestone islands and grottos (small caves). Start your journey towards east along Highway 5 across Hai Hung Province to Halong Bay. Designated as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, this bay offers exquisite scenery. Situated in the north-east region of Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin, Halong Bay is made up of 1,969 islands of various sizes. Next morning, take a boat ride around the bay and spot islands in bizarre shapes. You’ll see the Man’s Head Island, which resembles a man standing and facing the mainland and the Dragon Island that resembles a dragon hovering above the emerald water of the bay. Other islands resembling their namesakes are: the Sail, the Pair of Roosters, the La Vong and the Incense Burner. Also spot some wonderful grottos such as Thien Cung (Heavenly Residence Grotto), Dau Go (Driftwood Grotto), Sung Sot (Surprise grotto) and Tam Cung (Three Palace Grotto) among others. Get an insight into the history of Vietnam as you visit the Van Don, an ancient commercial port, the Poem Mountain with stone engraved poems on erstwhile emperors, and the Bach Dang River, a location of two naval battles fought against foreign aggressors. Sail past pretty floating villages, fishermen casting their nets and pearl fisheries and observe the rhythms of daily life on the bay. After a thorough island exploration, you return back from Halong Bay across Hai Hung Province to Hanoi. The bizarre shaped islands on the Halong Bay resembling a standing man and a hovering dragon are not to be missed out in this family holiday in Vietnam.
