Golden Triangle (with Standard Hotels) - Tour from Delhi |
See the majestic Taj Mahal, the hilltop fort at Amber and the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri
| Overview | |
Discover India’s fascinating history and beautiful architecture on this trip to the famous monuments of Agra and Jaipur. The Taj Mahal, one of the most famous monuments of India is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan as the mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz Mahal, it is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Another masterpiece is Fatehpur Sikri, once the capital city of the Mughals, which was apparently abandoned because of lack of water. Built by Emperor Akbar using red sandstone and marble, Fatehpur Sikri's attractions include the Bulund Darwaza, an arched gateway that is 40 metres high, the tomb of Sufi saint Salim Chisti and the palace of Jodha Bai, Akbar's Rajput queen. Jaipur fascinates visitors with its forts and palaces and is considered a great shopping destination too. The grandeur of the Amber Fort is accentuated as it is situated on top of a hill. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I, this Rajput fort-palace has beautiful mosaics and marble relief panels. Pick up tie and dye fabric, blue pottery items and a whole range of products made from camel skin while you are there. This tour combines the best of Agra and Jaipur and is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the history and cultural diversity of India.
