A Day in Lourdes - Tour from Toulouse |
See the famous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Grotto and the house where Bernadette lived
| Overview | |
From a tiny village of the Pyrenees, Lourdes has become one of the most visited and important Christian pilgrimage centres of France ever since the Virgin Mary appeared to young Bernadette Soubirou, a 14 year-old peasant girl, in 1858. This year the city celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Apparitions. This tour takes you to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes or the Domain (as it is most commonly known) and the three churches that were built on the site. Pilgrims from Europe and other parts of the world throng here every year between March and October. The famous Lourdes spring water from the Grotto in the shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes is believed by the devout to possess healing properties.
