Discover Mindo, one of the world’s top-five biodiversity hotspots, and listen to the concert of life all around you. The cloudforest reserve of Mindo-Nambillo is situated on the western slopes of Pichincha volcano at an altitude of 1400m to 4000m. Mindo is called "cloudforest" because the clouds hug the tops of the trees. Located about 80 kilometres northwest of Quito, the Mindo-Nambillo Reserve is spread across 15,000 acres of rainforest of incredible beauty and tranquillity. This amazingly bio diverse region is home to 2000 species of plants, including at least 90 species of ferns and vivid flowering varieties such as bromeliads and orchids. Mindo is the main attraction of the ecologic tourism with its waterfalls, rivers, and thousands of butterflies. Mindo is also a bird-watchers’ paradise with more than 325 species of birds found here including the famous Andean Cock-of the Rock lek, golden-headed quetzal, crimson-rumped toucanets, and violet-tailed sylph. Activities like trekking, visits to the waterfalls, rafting, and tubing, are popular here.
