Explora Atacama |
Explore the open museum at San Pedro de Atacama and learn of its history and culture
| Overview | |
A thrilling venture awaits your cognizance as you meddle into the self-important Calama. Roaming around this copper infested region you will squint at the sheen copper statutes, wall-etchings and reliefs infested in every corner of the region. Driving in trough the spectacular San Pedro de Atacama, its cluttered streets make it a perfect postcard picture for you to take home. The village church Iglesia San Pedro; a charming little structure carts you on a journey to its pre-Columbian past, which is evident in its masonry. Don’t care much about excavations or ancient artefacts? You will be lured into altering that volition once you enter the octagonal Museo Gustavo Le Paige. Paloe-Indian mummies, malformed skulls, relics of Inca and Spanish conquests along with a bizarre collection of paraphernalia for ingesting and smoking hallucinogenic plants are a few that intrigue you beyond imagination. Further, scaling the majestic volcano Licancabur (village hill) you will be surprised to find a little village nestled in the centre, concealed from your gaze. This village was known to be venerated by the Incas, so as you stride along its crater a magnum of ruins of altars and camps are left open to your scrutiny. San Perdro de Atacama provides you a sundry of places to explore and treasure. The grimy ambiance of the towering volcanic cliffs circumscribing the Miscanti and Meniques Lagoons traps you in its enigmatic nuances. Dappling the arid plains of San Pedro de Atacama with flaming crimson, you see pink flamingoes scurrying along the Atacama Salt Lake reminding you of busy red ants scuttling in and out of their sandy adobes. The El Tatio Geysers in the Andes Mountains is the world’s highest geyser field. A dunk in its gurgling geysers, mud pots, colourful pools, terraces reenergize every sullen particle in your body. You will stumble upon some simply exquisite mineral structures that are a result of the steam produced here. San Perdo de Atacama is acclaimed for its archaeological treasures, amongst which the richest are the ruins of Tulor village. Popping out of the land you can see only a fraction of the ruins, the rest still remain embedded in its sultry past. The only source of scenic pleasure here is the euphoric vision of Lascar Volcano, especially if you catch it is in action.
