Lying at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula, Cape Sounion is one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in Greece. The Cape rises high above the serene Aegean Sea and was an important nautical look-out point in ancient times. The Cape is renowned for the ruins of the ancient Temple of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea in classical mythology. The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea and offer one of the most picture-perfect sunsets in Greece.
