The famous Indian Market around Grey Street is a bustling mini-India, where one can pick up armfuls of authentic jewellery, silk and gold apparels at very reasonable prices. The Botanical Gardens are world-famous for the encephalartos woodii, the rare cycad plant and the only living plant of this species in the world. The magnificent Port of Durban dates back to 1824 when the first Europeans arrived. Vasco da Gama, according to folklore, first sighted this natural harbour on Christmas Day and subsequently named it Natal as a mark of respect for its Nativity. A walk on the Golden Mile is a must. With its shimmering ‘Sands of Gold’ (as the Portuguese called it), it forms a canvas of beauty that must be experienced. Spend the day exploring this vibrant city and get a sense of South Africa’s history and culture on this tour.
