Fly to the Diamond Camps and shipwrecks of Namibia on this family vacation to the Namib Desert. Begin your journey from the Swakopmund airstrip and proceed to the forbidden Diamond area, dotted with the remains of old diamond camps. Continuing over the ‘sea of sand’, you approach the shore at Conception Bay. Soaring along its coastline see the remains of a German passenger liner called Eduard Bohlen, which blends harmoniously with the powdery sands. It seems as though the ship is sailing through the desert itself. Further on, you will come across a shipwreck of a fishing trawler called Shaunee. Moving northward, as you fly over the “Lange Wand”, a 500 feet high dune rising from the coastline, it seems as though the sand and sea are engaged in a never-ending battle for supremacy. As you approach Sandwich Harbour, a large saltwater lagoon and home to an incredible variety of birds and one of south Africa’s biggest bird sanctuaries, you are welcomed by a number of birds. Further on, you fly over sand dunes meeting the Atlantic Ocean at Namibia’s only deep sea harbour, Walvis Bay, and continue over the guano-collecting wooden platform where the droppings of seabirds are collected to produce manure. After this informative and exciting flight, it’s time to stretch a leg at Dolphin Beach and Longbeach, the two recreational resorts-. Enjoy Namibia’s changing landscape on this exciting family vacation!
