With history, lively markets and beaches, your tour of Dar es Salaam city will be memorable!
| Overview | |
Handicraft markets, historical monuments and a busy sea-port-welcome to Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam. Founded in the 19th century, by the Sultan of Zanzibar, this city grew from a fishing village to an important commercial port centre of Tanzania. Walk along the streets and see the African, Arabic and Indian cultural influence that is evident in the city’s architecture. Dar es Salaam is also popular for its beaches and interesting tourist landmarks in the neighbourhood like Zanzibar and Bagomoyo. On this Dar es Salaam city tour you will visit the Mnazi moja park and see the Uhuru Torch Monument (symbol of Tanzania’s Freedom) that is built on Mount Kilimanjaro. Also visit the historical Republic Fountain, which was built in 1962 when Tanzania was declared a republic. The city also has some interesting markets, amongst which the Kariakoo market is a must visit. Pick up some authentic handicrafts, textiles and other locally made goods. With history, lively markets and beaches, this trip to Dar es Salaam city will be memorable!
