Surrounded by six mountains, it is the oldest city in the western hemisphere and the cradle of the ancient Inca civilization. Its proximity to the amazing archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu makes it a hugely popular destination.

Stone archways and cobblestone paths lead to the sacred capital of the Incas. The city is replete with the finest Incan stonework and dotted with charming Spanish style architecture, colonial arcades and red tiled roofs.

Fascinating Inca ruins vie for attention all around Cusco. The ‘Coricancha’ or Temple of the Sun, today stripped of its gold by Spanish conquerors, was dedicated to the sun God, Inti. Legend has it that the walls of the complex were lined with 700 sheets of gold weighing up to 2 kg!
