Excursion to Diamond Harbour near Calcutta
Escape from the hurly- burly of Calcutta to lovely Diamond Harbour for a perfect day out
| Attractions and things to do - Excursion to Diamond Harbour near Calcutta | |
Diamond Harbour lies in the southern suburbs of Calcutta on the banks of the river Hooghly. Earlier known as Hajipur, this charming place was named Diamond Harbour by the British and it was a major port when they ruled India. The place is considered a safe resting spot for ships and offers spectacular views of the Hooghly River. Diamong Harbour is a popular picnic spot and day trip for the city folk of Calcutta. The ruins of a fort and an ashram ( a place where people engaged in spiritual pursuits live) add to the charm of Diamond Harbour.
