The Iceland Sagas are renowned throughout the world and the west coast of Iceland was the setting for many of them. The Icelandic Sagas were written between the 12th and 13th centuries in the Icelandic language, at a time when almost everybody else in the world was writing in Latin. They document either the lives of specific people or whole communities. Surprisingly, most of the Sagas were written anonymously. This unique tour will take you to all the major places where the Sagas were written and follow the trail of some of the most famous Nordic poets of the Middle Ages. The tour includes a visit to Reykholt, the location of Iceland’s most prolific writers, Snorri Sturluson. Take this tour and learn about the fascinating Icelandic Sagas, and discover why they enjoy a special niche in world literature.
