The Antisana Ecological Reserve lies in the Central Highlands, on the foothills of the glacier-covered peak of the 5705 meters-high Antisana volcano, Ecuador’s fourth largest volcano. The 296,400-acre privately owned Antisana Ecological Reserve is a refuge for birds such as the endangered condor and black-faced ibis, carunculated cara-cara, Andean gulls, brown speckled teal and Andean lapwings. The region itself is surrounded by pristine rivers, huge vegetation and beautiful waterfalls. Due to the magnificent weather, there are plenty of orchids and bromeliads. Exult in the stark beauty of Tigua, an artisan village of Quechua Indians. Get a vivid picture of local life as you view vibrantly coloured paintings on sheepskin. The Quilotoa Lake is located in the crater of a volcano. The mysterious emerald waters of the lake provide a spectacular contrast against the ice-covered Cotopaxi volcano in the distance. Indigenous communities, grazing herds of sheep, llamas and the starkly beautiful Andean landscape are some of the highlights of this tour.
