Niah Caves and Niah National Park - Tour from Miri |
See the site of earliest human settlement in South East Asia in the famous Niah Caves in Borneo
| Overview | |
Visit the world-famous Niah Caves, where the oldest human remains in Southeast Asia, dating back to 40,000 years ago, along with many other relics of prehistoric man, were discovered. This has made the Niah Caves, in the Niah National Park in Borneo, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. The most important cave is the Great Cave, where the important discovery was made. Another must-see is the Painted Cave which contains the red hematite painting of human-like figures drawn on the rocks. The painting dates back at least 1,000 years. The cave itself seems to have served as an ancient grave site as evidenced by the boat-shaped coffins containing the bodies of the dead.
