Soul of Argentina, the tango is rhythmic, sensual and dramatic. Spend the evening at one of Buenos Aires traditional tango venues and your senses will be permeated by the passion, longing and despair typical of the tango. Developed at the end of the 19th century in the poorest sections of society, the tango borrowed from different styles of music and dance reflecting Buenos Aires melting pot of cultures. Intricately linked with the immigrants, the evolution of the tango reflects a profound sense of loss and longing for the people and places they left behind. Characterized by the ‘bandoneon’, a musical instrument developed in Germany, the evocative music and movements of the dancers will hold you captivated as you not only behold the orchestrated movements but experience the passion that commands the tango.
