The small, tranquil village of Mindo is world-renowned as one of the most bird-diverse corners of the planet. Set in a quiet, lovely valley dotted with rare and beautiful flowers and surrounded by the cloudforest reserve of Mindo-Nambillo, Mindo is a bird-watcher’s paradise. Located about 80 kilometres northwest of Quito, the Mindo-Nambillo Reserve is spread across 15,000 acres of rainforest of incredible beauty and tranquillity. See more than 325 species of birds including the golden-headed quetzal, crimson-rumped toucanets, violet-tailed sylph, broad-billed motmot, and the famous Andean Cock-of the Rock. This amazingly bio diverse region is home to 2000 species of plants, including at least 90 species of ferns and vivid flowering varieties. The Mariposas de Mindo, a butterfly farm, has more than 25 butterfly vividly coloured species, gracefully flitting around. For nature lovers, the environs of Mindo will simply enchant.
