Visit the ‘Grand Old Lady’, Miri’s first oil well, located atop Canada Hill, which produced some 660,000 barrels of oil. It has now been gazetted as a Historical MonumentGo to one of the biggest Taoist Temples in South East Asia - Lian Hua San (Lotus Hill) Temple. Don’t miss the bustling Farmer's Market, commonly known as "Tamu", where you will see a huge variety of local vegetables, fruits and other food brought in by the natives and local farmers from around Miri. Miri is a city in northern Sarawak, on the island of Borneo, and the birthplace of the petroleum industry in Sarawak. The town of Miri developed rapidly from a small village in the 1800s into the very cosmopolitan and modern town it is today largely due to the discovery of oil when it was first discovered in 1910.
