The beautiful Ballestas Islands, just off the coast of the Paracas National Reserve, form the largest natural sanctuary on Peruvian shores. They are home to thousands of migratory birds, which share their habitat with huge groups of sea lions, dolphins and fur seals. As a result, they are also known as the Peruvian Galapagos. See the famous three-pronged Candelabro (The Candlebara), some 150 metre-high and 50 metre-wide.According to legend, it was a reference for pirates that indicated the spot where their treasures were hidden. Others say that it was the sign for the independence army to disembark, guided by General Don Jos
