Jordan’s Nature Reserves: Azraq Wetland and Shumari Reserve Excursion |
View Arabian Oryx, gazelles, migratory birds and natural beauty of desert vegetation in Jordan
| Overview | |
On this eco tour in Jordan visit two prominent nature reserves that shelter many species of desert animals on the brink of extinction. The Azraq Wetland Reserve near Amman is a restored oasis of natural beauty and tranquillity in the Jordanian desert. The desert landscape dramatically changes into refreshing greenery at the Reserve with hundreds of lush trees surrounding natural and man-made pools, some pools dating back to the ancient times. It is also a bird-watcher’s paradise during winter season when hundreds of migratory birds halt here for rest or nesting. Created in 1975 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, the small Shumari Reserve is home to some of the rarest animal species in the Middle East. Among them are the Arabian oryx, an endangered antelope that was feared extinct some years ago, ostriches, onagers (wild ass) and graceful desert gazelles. Enjoy glimpses of rare animals and birds of the desert on this interesting tour to two of the best nature reserves in Jordan.
